Azerbaijan National Karate Federation

The National Karate Federation of the Azerbaijan Republic was founded in 1994. In 1997, the National Federation became a full member of the World Karate Federation (WKF), the largest and most powerful karate organization in the world comprising of 183 countries and more than 50 million members. A year earlier, the National Federation joined the European Karate Federation (EKF).

The structural units of the World Karate Federation are:

AKF (African Karate Federation) 42 countries
PKF (Pan-American Karate Federation) 36 countries

The World Karate Federation (WKF) is the only karate federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC Session 109 of March 17, 1999), whose main objective is to combine the basic style of karate under the general rules of competition and enter the program of the Olympic Games.

The last few years, the official sponsor of the National Karate Federation is the International Bank of Azerbaijan. With its assistance our sportsmen have the opportunity to participate at all official competitions conducted by the World Karate Federation. Great assistance and personal support is provided by the President of the National Olympic Committee and President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev, as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It should be noted that Ilham Aliyev is the honorary member of our Federation and the holder of the honorary 9th dan and black belt in karate.
The National Karate Team of Azerbaijan is one of the strongest teams in Europe and the world. Over the past few years, our karate sportsmen many times have been the winners of the prestigious international tournaments, European and World Championships. Currently such stars as repeated World and European Champion, winner of the World Games Rafael Aghayev, World Champion Israfil Shirinov, Aykhan Mamayev, Europe Champions Parviz Abdulkarimov, Jeyhun Aghasiyev, Rustam Madadov, Fayyaz Ildirimzade and Niyazi Aliyev, bronze medalist of European Championship Amal Atayev, Yusif Jafarov, Shahin Atamov and Rashad Huseynov are in the national team.
